Recipient Org: Description The Richmond Fellowship is a national mental health charity which supports people within the community. The charity helps people with complex needs, where mental health issues may be coupled with addiction or substance misuse, isolation, homelessness, abusive relationships, poor job prospects or lack of basic education, and works alongside a range of other services to ensure that an individual has access to a tailored package of care. Richmond Fellowship - Mid Surrey is a part of this larger Group, supporting people within its own geographical remit through the provision of supported housing, community based and employment services. The Old Moat Garden Centre in Epsom is an established garden centre, café and shop within the local community, which provides realistic work-based opportunities to local people with mental health problems. Service users gain horticultural experience - including a L2 QCF qualification if they wish - by working alongside staff to play an integral part in the operation of the garden centre and carrying out all of the tasks associated with its running. The Old Moat Café and Shop offers a different range of work experience in the catering and service industry, with the opportunity to gain a food safety qualification. All profits are reinvested into supporting the recovery of local people living with mental ill health. Old Moat supports 40-50 people at any one time most of whom will spend one or two days at the centre each week. Each will be allocated a lead from the team who will sit down with them regularly for support planning sessions which enable them to set goals personal to their own recovery and identify what support may be needed to help them meet their aspirations. The service is backed by a team of 40 dedicated part-time volunteers who are on hand to deliver one-to-one support to those who need it. At the same time, the centre provides a “community hub” for local residents. Local friendship group ‘Friday Friends’, walking and cycling groups (including the Seeability Tandem Club) and local dog walkers (with Horton Country Park just across the road) are frequent visitors.
