Purpose of Organisation | Keychange charity is a national charity and company limited by guarantee supporting around 250 residents in 13 care homes and hostels. The charity’s head office is in London, however there are Keychange communities across the country. Keychange has 9 Trustees and employs more than 400 people. It has a Christian ethos, but has staff and clients from all faith backgrounds. Wayside House Keychange community in Reigate provides safe and secure accommodation with support for vulnerable women. The House provides single occupancy accommodation for 19 females aged 18-59 with shared communal facilities. Staff are on site to give focused support in building skills, stability and self-worth. There is a strong emphasis on positive community living and peer mentoring. Wayside has a long history of providing support to females, dating back to the early 1900’s, and focusing on women with more complex needs from the 1990’s. Contributory factors which necessitate such support can include separation from family or children; past abusive relationships; alcohol or drug issues; breakdown in health; increasing isolation or uncertainty; unstable housing history; and lack of finances or life opportunities. Wayside staff work with each individual to assess need. Staff have an in-depth knowledge of other local agencies in order to signpost to more specialised services, and are particularly skilled in assisting with benefits, accessing training and employment, sourcing future housing opportunities and helping people cope with emotional and mental difficulties. Support is provided through key-working, group sessions, learning courses, and in-house activities. Each resident has an agreed housing plan with objectives, and these are regularly reviewed with the individual to monitor progress. |
