Purpose of Organisation | Following its initial concert for Tilford Bach Society (TBS), Farnham Sinfonia (FS) is seeking to establish itself as a permanent small orchestra in the Farnham area, providing performing opportunities for local professional musicians. FS is a small symphony orchestra (sinfonia), set up around 18 months ago by Matthew Taylor. The planned repertoire will range from classical through to “tuneful modern”, and it is hoped that there will be further opportunities to premiere new works by contemporary composers. The musicians will be paid per concert. Administration will be handled by unpaid volunteers through TBS which is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), run by 6 Trustees. The ethos of FS is to programme symphonies of Haydn and Mozart on modern instruments which seldom enter the current concert repertoire. This will be in combination with some 20th century British and contemporary composers whose works are still undervalued or insufficiently known. The orchestra will perform twice yearly at the Parish Church of St Andrew's in Farnham (March / April and September / October). |
