Purpose of Organisation Our group has existed since 1945 to provide scouting activities for young people outside school hours. We provide inspiration and support to help them achieve their full physical, social and intellectual potential and to become responsible members of their local, national and international communities. We achieve this through a challenging and fun programme of sport, outdoor and indoor play, camping, craft and educational activities. We have around 120 members and we are the largest as well as the most vibrant, active and well run group in the area. We have a substantial, dedicated team of volunteer leaders, who give countless hours to support the development of the children. This is especially important in Spelthorne which is the poorest part of Surrey, (as measured by the government's Index of Multiple Deprivation) and has higher levels of anti-social behaviour and lower levels of physical activity than the rest of the county. Our group allows children in lower socio-economic groups to participate in activities, indoors and outdoors, that they would otherwise be unable to do. Many children have their first experience of water sports, climbing, archery and other activities through the group. We run groups on five evenings for different age groups, and also offer weekend trips and camps. We have our own minibuses (achieved through massive fundraising efforts), meaning children can travel to places their families may not be able to afford to enjoy camping and outdoor scouting activities. The group is run in accordance with scouting best practice. Our governing documents are those of the Scout Association. We have an Executive Committee (three independent representatives, the Group Scout Leader, section leaders and parent representatives), which meets ten times a year. We have policies in place for safety, risk assessment, child protection, anti-bullying, and equal opportunities.
