| Purpose of Organisation | Creative Response Arts Limited is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, with the aim of delivering a fine-arts-based specialist intervention service for individuals who experience ‘severe and enduring mental distress’. Initially the charity works on a 1-1 basis with clients, tailoring the sessions to everyone’s needs, but group sessions are also offered once people have engaged with the service for a while. The service is delivered by professional artists and therefore the service is not art therapy or art teaching. The aim is to encourage individual creativity and for artists to share with the individual the experience of creativity. The charity’s approach is “threefold: physical, mental and spiritual, using the visual and performance arts as catalysts in the healing process.” Referrals to Creative Response (CR) are from social workers, community psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, GPs or private individuals. The service is specialist in working with individuals with addiction and eating disorders but will work with people with a wide range of mental health issues. Clients move on to Art courses, volunteering, and paid work, and there are group and individual exhibitions to showcase creations. Sessions are based at the CR premises at Vernon House, Farnham, on 5 days per week, from 1-3pm, and in Cranleigh once per week. Most clients are resident in Surrey (around 95%). Many clients live in Farnham where the project is largely based. |
