Purpose of Organisation Rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we have been providing expert care for adults with a terminal illness and supporting their loved ones, for 40 years. Our ambition is to be there for everyone who needs us. St Catherine’s charitable objectives are: • to relieve suffering, provide comfort and improve quality of life for people with progressive life-limiting illness • to relieve the suffering of people facing or experiencing bereavement by the provision of counselling • to advance research and education in palliative and end of life care Whilst the majority of our patients (64%) have cancer as their primary diagnosis, we care for people affected by life limiting conditions including motor neurone disease, heart disease, chronic pulmonary conditions and dementia. St Catherine’s care for people across our catchment area of East Surrey and West Sussex; on our wards, in people’s own homes, in care homes and hospitals. Our services include: 1. Nursing care in the community seven days a week, enabling patients to stay in the comfort and familiar surroundings of home 2. Wellbeing services including therapies, emotional support and bereavement care 3. Specialist advice and support 24 hours a day through our telephone service 4. Symptom management, pain relief and end of life care at our Inpatient Unit in Crawley Our vital services are delivered by our expert teams of nurses, doctors, therapists, counsellors and advisors, and we are incredibly proud that three of our clinical nurses have been awarded the Queen’s Nurse title, recognising their commitment to learning, leadership and excellence in patient care. Our services are provided at no cost to patients and families. As we receive just a third of the income required to run our services from the NHS, we rely on the continuing generosity of our supporters and the local community.
