| Recipient Org: Description | The Godalming Film Society is well established and financially robust. This application is for an offshoot of the society which aims to establish Relaxed Cinema I Godalming (RCiG) screenings on a regular basis. RCiG is specially designed for people of all ages who have mental or physical conditions - such as Dementia, Autism or constrained mobility - who wish to see films or who will benefit from watching films but are not able to attend regular film screenings. Such people will normally be accompanied by a carer. We have trialled RCiG at three screenings between Dec 2018 and September 2019. We had 50 people attending the third screening. These screenings were free to enter and costs were met by grants from the Town Council, The Godalming Lottery and the Film Society. In 2020 we plan to have 5 RCiG screenings and have secured a £500 grant from Waverley Borough to support this. The finances for RCiG screening are currently handled by and underwritten by the Godalming Film Society but are accounted for separately. The aim is to make RCiG financially independent of the Film Society and this project is being implemented in partnership with Godalming Dementia Action Alliance, with the support of Godalming Town Council. A Memorandum of Understanding is being negotiated between these parties to define roles and responsibilities. NEW as of 2025/26 MR2 Godalming Relaxed Cinema Club (GRCC) was started at the end of 2024. GRCC continues the work done previously under the title Relaxed Cinema in Godalming which received a CFS grant in 2021 and which was reported on in 2023. GRCC aims to screen suitable films, once a month, for those living with dementia or with other conditions that prevented them from accessing regular cinemas. |
