Recipient Org: Description Relate Mid & East Surrey is a trusted local charity dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and young people through high-quality, affordable counselling and support services. We operate independently to provide a safe, inclusive space where people can address relationship challenges, mental health concerns, and family issues. Our mission is to promote healthy relationships as the foundation of a thriving community. We aim to: * Support families, individuals, and young people during times of distress. * Offer early intervention to improve mental health outcomes. * Ensure accessibility to counselling for economically disadvantaged individuals through subsidised or free sessions. * Strengthen community cohesion by reducing isolation and fostering resilience. Our core services include: * Relationship Counselling – for individuals, couples, and families. * Young People’s Counselling – supporting children and young adults struggling with mental health, school, and family issues. * Family Counselling – helping families improve communication, resolve conflicts, and provide emotional support to one another. * Mediation – assisting separated families in maintaining healthy co-parenting relationships. * Sex Therapy – supporting individuals and couples with intimacy-related challenges. * Workshops and Training – equipping parents, young people, and professionals with tools to manage emotions, relationships, and mental health challenges. By providing these services, we aim to reduce the long-term impact of mental health challenges, prevent family breakdowns, and equip individuals with the tools to build healthy, positive relationships. Our experienced team of professional counsellors is highly trained to provide tailored support, ensuring that every individual, couple, or family receives the care they need. NEW as of 2025/26 Crisis Funding Surrey Counselling & Mediation exists to help people in Surrey when life feels overwhelming. We support children, young people, adults, couples and families who are struggling with emotional distress, relationship difficulties or family conflict, often at times of significant pressure or change. Our aim is simple: to make sure people can access timely, professional support when they need it, regardless of their ability to pay. We know that when problems are left unsupported they often grow, affecting mental health, relationships, children’s wellbeing and, in many cases, placing greater strain on public services. Early help can make a real difference. We work to: Improve emotional wellbeing and mental health. Support healthier relationships and family life. Reduce conflict, distress and isolation. Help people cope better and move forward with more stability and confidence. Keep support affordable and accessible, especially for those experiencing financial hardship. We believe everyone deserves the chance to talk to someone skilled and impartial in a safe, confidential setting. What we do We provide counselling and mediation services across Surrey, both in person and online. This flexibility allows people to access support in a way that fits around work, school, caring responsibilities or health needs. Our services include: Counselling for adults We support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, bereavement and relationship problems. Many people come to us when they are under financial pressure or juggling multiple responsibilities, and need a space to talk things through and regain some balance. Couples counselling We help couples who are struggling to communicate, dealing with conflict or facing big changes in their relationship. For some, this means finding a way forward together; for others, it means separating with less damage and more understanding. Counselling for children and young people We work with children and young people who are experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, low mood or difficulties linked to family breakdown or school pressures. Early support can prevent problems becoming more serious and help young people feel safer and more confident. Family counselling and mediation We support families and separated parents to manage conflict and focus on what is best for their children. Our mediation service helps families avoid drawn-out disputes and reduces the emotional toll of separation on everyone involved. Alongside our direct work with clients, we work closely with local schools, GP practices, adult and children’s social care teams, domestic abuse organisations and other mental health services. This means we can offer counselling as part of wider support, especially where people are dealing with several challenges at once. These relationships help make sure support is joined up and that individuals and families are not left to cope alone or fall through gaps between services. Low-cost and subsidised support A key part of our work is making sure cost does not prevent people from getting help. Many of our clients would not be able to access private counselling or mediation without our reduced-fee and bursary-funded sessions. All of our work is delivered by qualified, experienced practitioners. Appointments are available during the day, evenings and weekends to make services as accessible as possible. Our track record in the community We have been supporting people in Surrey for nearly 75 years. Over that time, we have helped many thousands of local residents through periods of distress, change and uncertainty. We are well known locally and regularly relied upon by GPs, schools and specialist organisations, including domestic abuse services, as a trusted source of support. We often work with people who are already known to other services but need therapeutic help alongside practical or safeguarding support. Our ability to work sensitively, confidentially and collaboratively means professionals feel confident referring people to us, particularly when situations are complex or emotionally charged. Feedback from clients regularly tells us that: They feel less overwhelmed and more able to cope. Communication within their relationships improves. Conflict reduces, particularly where children are involved. They gain clarity, confidence and emotional stability. Many people tell us that getting support at the right time stopped their situation from turning into a crisis, such as relationship breakdown escalating, mental health deteriorating further or children becoming more affected. Why our work matters now Demand for our services has grown in recent years. The cost-of-living crisis, housing insecurity and long waits for statutory mental health services mean more people are seeking help, and they are doing so earlier because they are struggling to cope. At the same time, many of the people who need us most are less able to pay. As a charity, we have chosen to prioritise keeping services accessible, but this has placed real financial strain on the organisation. We have actively taken steps to become more sustainable. We have reduced overheads, changing how our services are delivered, and finding new ways to generate income. These changes are necessary and already underway, but they take time to fully settle.
