Recipient Org: Description Joyfull Greens is a plant-based community cookery school in Godalming, supporting people to cook and eat more plants to lead healthier, happier, more connected, more sustainable lives. Through outreach and cookery programmes, we provide opportunities to people across the community to make healthier food and lifestyle choices and positively influence their health and wellbeing. Food is at the heart of our existence and can be a powerful driver for change; cooking and eating together can transform lives. Our Community Interest Company was founded in 2024 by Frédérique Lecerf; a community educator with 22 years of experience working in Godalming and surrounds. We were initially helped by kickstart funding from Godalming Town Council who granted us £1,500 to buy our first equipment in November 2024. Since then we have delivered 26 cookery sessions in more than 5 locations across Waverley. Some of this work has been funded by Waverley Council and Surrey County Council, which has enabled us to reach some of the most disadvantaged residents at low or zero cost to them. Joyfull Greens works with individuals and communities who disproportionately experience health poverty and inequality. Through our free cooking classes participants benefit by developing the practical skills to feed themselves and their families healthy, affordable and delicious food. We create opportunities for people to experience healthy food with others, meet new people, feel more connected with their communities and at the same time better take care of their general health and wellbeing in a planet-friendly, culturally varied and supportive environment. Joyfull Greens provides a fun and supportive atmosphere for participants of all levels of ability to learn plant-based cookery and cook together. Changing your eating habits is a journey and we support people along the way, with recipes, events and connections. Our free community classes are social occasions. At the end of each class, participants, volunteers and teachers all sit together to eat, chat and enjoy! Alongside our free community classes, we also offer Paid-for workshops to the general public, to help fundraise for our community programmes. All proceeds raised from these paying classes go towards funding our food-education work in the community.
