Recipient Org: Description The Cambridgeshire Deaf Association (CDA) was established over 100 years ago and is at the heart of the local Deaf Community. Over 80% of our members of staff are deaf or are hard of hearing. This means that we have a deep understanding of our beneficiaries' needs. No other organisation offers the support we do in the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire areas. People who encounter deafness have varying needs and abilities. We work with people who are profoundly deaf, use sign language, or whose deafness causes significant communication problems. Many of our clients have additional needs, such as physical or learning disabilities. Deaf people do not have access to many services so we offer support across many different areas. Everything from explaining legal forms, to making sure someone receives proper medical care. Our services include support for day-to-day living; a Freedom programme for deaf women to help protect rehabilitate them from abusive relationships; frequent drop-in services; statutory and non-statutory advocacy; art-based groups aiding in communication; and a befriending, volunteer service for those most at risk in the community.
