Recipient Org: Description Red Balloon provides a full-time educational and therapeutic recovery programme for young people aged 11-21 who have been severely bullied, faced trauma or struggle with mental ill-health, and find themselves unable to attend mainstream school. Despite their self-exclusion, these children want to be in school, want to learn and want to have friends and belong. Red Balloon helps them achieve these aims. We have five physical Centres and a hybrid in-person and online provision called Red Balloon of the Air for students who have higher needs and/or live too far away from a physical Centre. Whether online or in-person, our programme consists of three components - wellbeing, social re-engagement and academic skills - balanced in a bespoke manner to meet the recovery needs of each individual student. These components are further tailored to match the needs, goals, interests and progress of each student. This input and negotiation empowers students to take control of their lives. Students in our programme can earn qualifications from GCSEs to ASDAN awards and certificates to outdoor learning awards. This boosts their confidence and self-esteem and helps them get back on academic track. Over 90% of our students go on to further education, training or employment.
