Recipient Org: Description | 57 West was established by a group of churches in 2014 to provide support for people who are isolated or vulnerable in Southend. Our vision is to be an accepting and inclusive community, with our community at the centre of our decision making and resourcing. We work in partnership with those who are vulnerable, helping them to find solutions to their problems. Our activities include: - Community café. Our café is a safe and friendly space, open three days a week for our community. Around 80 guests visit us each session; most are struggling with homelessness or housing, but we also welcome people who are unemployed and people with addictions. - Co-hosting our town’s winter night shelter. - Advocacy and assistance. With our knowledge of the wider health and social care system we can assist our community by helping them to find accommodation or to move into suitable housing; receive care for their mental health or apply for benefits. We work with other providers in the town to achieve positive outcomes. Many of these activities have been affected by COVID, but we are still providing vital support and assistance for the marginalised and vulnerable people in our community. |
