Recipient Org: Description Outhouse Aims and objectives. Outhouse aims to create a significant and lasting impact on the lives of the LGBTQ+ community in Essex, improving their mental health,the Outcome being to improve peoples physical and psychological well being. The sense of security and safety in their educational and working environment, as well as supporting both individuals in the community, and those connected to it through families or other relationships,.The Outcome being,for the community feeling valued and the ability to being themselves. Outhouse east provides vital support and guidance to the LGBTQ+ population of Essex, whilst developing and promoting a sustainable ,fair and equal society where all the lesbian, gay ,bisexual, transgender questioning people (LGBTQ+) can achieve their full potential. There is currently no other LGBTQ+ charity serving the Essex community fulfilling the same role as Outhouse East, or offering the range of services it provides. Outhouse East promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, visibility and inclusion with outreach programmes, while working in partnership with other organisations and individuals to build a strong, cohesive and influential LGBTQ+ voluntary and community sector. Outhouse east provides services specifically tailored to the LGBTQ+ community while creating safe spaces for members of this marginalised community, where their concerns are addressed and they are treated with dignity and respect. Activities Counselling services, . Outhouse has a counselling service run by both qualified and student counsellors. There is 20 session limit, a review is completed after every 6 sessions to ensure that the counselling is still of benefit. Our free counselling service is open to people within the LGBTQ+ community who are 13 years old and over. LGBTQ+ Awareness Sessions These are available to organisations, charities, businesses, health and social care workers, voluntary workers and educational institutions across the whole of Essex. The sessions that are available can be tailored to meet organisational needs. Sessions are lottery funded and so are provided at no charge however a donation to the charity will be discussed at time of booking.we have devised a programme for primary schools that talks about families and relationships. Youth services Our Youth group is a new and exciting venture for us, we have a qualified youth worker who has established a regular group for young people. We piloted a youth project by the youth worker, to look at service needs for young people. From the consultation that we completed with Young people, including, those from the National Citizen project, it was decided to develop our Young Peoples Project.The services we currently offer include a regular weekly youth group, additional youth services during the holiday periods, and a specific young peoples counsellor. We currently have two Trans support groups which run monthly on Saturdays pm and Tuesday evenings,one of which is a peer support by Trans for the Trans community ,the other is a support group to build on self esteem. Trans parents support group. After consultation with parents and conversations with young people,we have decided to develop a Trans parents support group run by parents of transitioning young people,with support from ourselves and the counselling team.the idea is to ensure that parents of those young people transitioning have support and guidance whist the young people progress through their transitioning. We have developed a women's crafting afternoon Craft with Pride, a group which encourages more women to come forward to use our centre, which in turn ,will then encourage women to engage in our other services . We offer support for people affected by domestic abuse, by working in In partnership with Safer Places, and have direct access to qualified staff for support and guidance when needed, support groups are available to help should anyone find themselves in an abusive relationship. We offer additional support with HIV/AIDS. Outhouse East works in partnership with METRO Centre and the Terence Higgins Trust,to offer HIV Support in Essex. Sessions are held in Colchester with referrals to Outhouse for additional support. services,Metro use the centre for group and individual work. their services include: advice & advocacy, health information, counselling and peer support. Joint training sessions are run for the wider public to support the awareness of the LGBTQ+ community and Aids prevention. Socials/Drop in Our Drop-in runs weekly on a Saturday morning and is for a mixed social group, which is open to all members of the LGBT community, as well as their friends and family. On a monthly basis the Colchester Pride committee run the session to keep the community informed about Colchester Pride. Colchester Pride use Outhouse East as a base for meetings and fund raising activities. Library Outhouse East has its own on site library, which is free to use library. Anyone is able to use the space including students looking for LGBT+ specific resources or to study, to read. we also run Law clinics from the centre,these are run by Essex university law students and tutors ,this enables the community to have free advice on ,name changing ,benefits advice,family issues etc .
