Recipient Org: Description | To act as a resource for young people between the ages of 13-21 living in Loughton and the surrounding area (and particularly those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances are unable to access such activities elsewhere) by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational, recreational, leisure and other activities as a mean of: a) improving their conditions of life b) helping them to develop their skills, spiritual capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals; c) advancing their education; d) providing positive diversionary activities in order to reduce the potential for them becoming involved in anti social activity. This, therefore provides benefit to the wider community as well as the young people themselves We currently operate out of The Space, a safe centre for local young people where we provide educational and leisure/social activities for 11-19 year olds as well as mentoring and counselling. We also produce and broadcast a youth community radio station and run a "Work Club" for the older young people who have difficulty accessing the employment market. We currently open "The Space" 5 afternoons a week and a further 3 hours early Friday evening. |
