Recipient Org: Description To provide a range of respite solutions to unpaid care givers. To alleviate loneliness, isolation and declining health amongst carers and their beneficiaries. To support and enable those living with a disability, the elderly living with Dementia to remain living independently for longer. To 'push back' the need for damaging respite breaks in care homes and eventual entry into full time residential care. We provide this support in many different ways, thus allowing the carer and their loved ones to receive the support they, as individuals need, how they want it delivered, when and where. One way is via our 'respite in the home' team of dedicated carer support workers who visit the home, take over the caring role for a pre-agreed amount of time and allowing the carer to leave the house and have some 'me' time. Our support workers are matched with their clients and remain their support worker giving familirity and allowing them. to build a bond and trust with the families. We regularly meet with the families to assess the changing needs of our clients. Another support line is through our day centres. We have one day centre for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties. This is based in Benfleet but clients come from far and wide to access this facility, this includes Southend through to Billericay etc. We run four Dementia Day Centres. These are based in Benfleet, Wickford, Thurrock and Southend. These provide a day of cognitive stimulation therapy, music and movements, arts and crafts, baking, gardening and we have therapy pets, choirs and much more visiting us on a regular basis. We believe that the socialisation provided by our day centres is vital to maintaining good mental health, reducing depression caused by isolation and lack of stimulation. Our Silver Birch staff are all dementia trained and can provide personal care. All staff are DBS checked to enhanced level every 3 years. We have fund raised over the years to enable us to purchase accessible minibuses and an accessible car. Transport is one of the biggest issues for the parents of disabled adults and even more so with the elderly. We also provide a facility for the young carers in our community and this takes the form of a youth club style meeting where the young carers can have their 'me' time away from caring for their loved ones, be it their parents, grandparents or siblings. We provide a much needed peer support group and counselling.
