Recipient Org: Description | The aim of the Wivenhoe Bike Kitchen is to support cycling as an everyday activity. Our objectives are To promote self reliance and confidence through education To help make cycling affordable and accessible to all To promote cycling as a means of local transportation of people and goods To work with other organisations to support an increase in utility cycling To meet our objectives 1) We operate a workshop from a premises owned by Wivenhoe Town Council. We open twice a week so that anyone can drop in and get friendly, skilled help from trained volunteers to learn to fix any problem with their bike 2) We provide advice and information about a wide range of cycling related local resources and other services including reliable local bike shops and mechanics and signpost people to relevant ones. 3) We run structured free or low cost courses where people can book in and learn and practice specific skills in bike maintenance. 4) We take part in national Bike Week and annual Big Bike Revival run by Cycling UK that aims to get unused bikes back into operation. 5) We attend local events to do bicycle checks and engage with people about cycling, through fun activities and conversations 6) We attend and contribute to ECC and CBC cycling meetings and forums. 7) We attend a range of events at Essex University to promote and enable more cycling among students and staff. 9) We organise led rides, including for women only, for all ages, to get people more confident to cycle for everyday means. 10) We lend out cargo trailers to enable people to try them out before buying or for occasional transportation of awkward or heavy loads, rather than use a vehicle. |
