Recipient Org: Description Essex Symphony Orchestra is an ambitious non-professional orchestra formed in 1949, playing three concerts per season featuring the large symphonic works of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a membership organisation we offer a community activity to people from all walks of life, covering a wide geographic area from Southend to Colchester. We are a registered charity and a member of the national association Making Music and are governed by a constitution and elected Committee. VISION Essex Symphony Orchestra is rooted in its community, inspiring audiences through a shared love, and discovery, of classical music. MISSION We aspire to be Essex’s leading non-professional orchestra and are committed to: • delivering high quality concerts of a wide range of orchestral repertoire, including a focus on the work of women composers, and featuring the cream of up-and-coming professional soloists • being embedded in our community, supporting local charities including Sanctus in 2022-23 season • seeking to engage and build audiences through free tickets to new attendees and all under 18s and the provision of informative and approachable free pre-concert talks • inspiring young people through bespoke education projects and orchestral workshops which have so far reached nearly 3,500 young people in Essex.
