Recipient Org: Description We have newly formed under the license of Ormiston as the Directly Licensed Centre (DLC). We are offering Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke Edinburgh Awards to all students of Ormiston from year 10 upwards. The award involves the Young People in community volunteering, physical activity, and skills-based activities with their well-earned expedition during the Award period. The award was previously offered to students via a different method, but places were limited, and this was at a considerably higher cost. Unfortunately, the pupils were not receiving the Award experience to the best quality that they should or would expect. Now that Ormiston are the DLC, we have made significant changes that means we can deliver all 3 Awards and our Team can work with the Young People throughout the whole journey. However, the one problem that this has left us with is no equipment as this was taken by the last provider. We are looking for funding to be able to buy tents, cooking equipment (Trangia’s) maps, compasses, rucksacks, roll mats and a supply of walking boots and waterproofs so that all Young People will be able to participate in this fantastic Award regardless of family income or background. We have a quote from Go outdoors and managed to persuade them to reduce the original quote by almost £700 to £4,391.73 to purchase enough equipment which would allow us to cater for a higher number of Young People to enrol on the Award.
