Recipient Org: Description | Black Country Touring (BCT) was founded in 1997 as a response to the lack of established venues and lack of opportunities for local audiences to have access to the professional arts: in particular theatre and dance, in an area with one of the lowest levels of arts engagement in the UK. BCT’s mission is to enable people in the Black Country to create, choose and present the very best theatre and dance performances for their local communities and BCT’s work reflects the diverse communities that make up the Black Country. The organisation brings the very best artists and companies to our local communities, as well as creating new work born out of contemporary Black Country stories for both local and national audiences. BCT has developed one of the first Young Promoter schemes in the UK over the last 15 years, working with school children and young people in deprived areas to select, organise and promote a professional theatre show in their community. We also piloted a Young Producer scheme in 2015. We reach around 250 children a year through our youth schemes and have ambitions to grow the programme, including a biennial Young Promoters Festival. |
