Recipient Org: Description | Kids Adventure is a student-run charity at the University of Birmingham providing respite breaks for disadvantaged children in Birmingham, many of whom have/are experiencing some form of abuse, neglect or poverty; the children are referred to us by Birmingham Social Services. We run a Christmas Party Day, one week at Easter and two weeks during summer. As part of our buddy scheme, the children are paired with a different volunteer each day, so they receive personal support and encouragement. Many of the children that we work with struggle to interact appropriately with other people, so our volunteers help the children develop these skills. All of the families that we work with struggle with deprivation and difficult circumstances, but we ensure activities are accessible no matter the financial situation, by providing all food and transport for each child - the children are collected and dropped off each day by minibus. |
