White Hart Covid impact support (360G-HeartofEnglandCF-A628204)

Applicant is seeking funding to employ a new part-time worker to develop two distinct projects - a group for individuals living with dementia, and their carers, and a group, or groups to bring those who are isolated in communities together, to reduce loneliness. Over 60 weeks, this staff member would conduct outreach for the groups and be responsible for convening and delivering them, with support from three volunteers. Participants would experience improved mental health, build social connections and in the case of those living with dementia experience improved mood and memory.

Recipient Org: Description White Hart Community Groups (WHCG) was formerly the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire, the latter being a registered charity and company limited by guarantee that delivered volunteer centre functions for 35 years. When the Volunteer Centre lost core funding in 2019, the WHCG maintained contact with local community groups previously supported by the former, but under its new name. In August 2020 it registered as a CIO taking the charity number previously used by the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire. The WHCG considers itself a completely separate entity from what was the volunteer centre. Its aims are to provide groups for people in the local community to be able to join and flourish in. Groups it currently delivers include a job club, craft group, allotment project, knitting group and woodwork workshop. Applicant reports that many who access its clubs have medical issues such as depression or anxiety, may be isolated in the community, unemployed and/or have problems with alcohol. Its groups therefore provide more than simply an offer of skills, but also a chance to socialise and be supported by peers and volunteers.
