Recipient Org: Description We aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves. The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to young people who are often struggling in todays world and their communities. Our experienced volunteers offer a variety of activities such as Adventure Training, Camping, Canoeing, Cooking/Catering, First Aid, Kayaking, Marine Engineering, Mountain Biking, Navigation, Physical Training, Rowing, Sailing (including offshore & overseas trips), Seamanship and much more, as well as many life skills. We also encourage cadets to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and our BTEC programmes. Our unit is very lucky to have a lake on the doorstep, which we use to the full advantage in our Summer months. Throughout the Summer, we focus on boating and outdoor activities such as Mountain Biking, with each young person gaining a minimum of three qualifications in house, with the opportunity moving forward to develop on those earnt qualifications and progress to the next one. In our Winter months, we take part in interactive classroom-based learning, gaining qualifications in the above mentioned activities
