Recipient Org: Description | Imece was set up in 1982, and is by and for Black, Asian, Ethnic Minority & Refugee (BAMER) women, primarily Turkish/Kurdish/Cypriot Turkish (T/K/TC). Imece is user-led, women and centred. Imece adopted a strength based, trauma informed approach. Imece aims to aid BAMER women empower themselves whilst enabling them to have a voice in decision making and life choices. Imece accumulated extensive expertise in supporting women with multiple/complex issues, intersectional discrimination; and developed a wide array of approaches proven to be effective & successful. Our usual activities include, VAWG advocacy and support services for all risk levels, generic advice, awareness raising and training for the BAMER communities and professionals, therapeutic services peer support groups, volunteering projects, Whilst Trustee Board oversees the governance and policy, ensure decision are made compliant to legal/statutory requirements and set overarching strategy, Director, who has 10 years’ experience in the VAWG sector, makes project based strategic decisions as well as operational with service managers who has extensive experience in the sector. Our user steering committee contribute to decisions. We regularly conduct user consultations/surveys and focus groups, and use reported issues to inform our wider community needs assessment in designing and shaping our services. Imece has a strong track record of working in partnerships including international partnerships. Some current projects include: ASCENT- Supporting BAMER women in London as part of London VAWG Consortium, Islington Samira Project –BAMER VAWG advocacy, WISER project in partnership led by Solace, Homeless Link in partnership with AVA, Solace and Haringey Council. |
