Recipient Org: Description The charity was founded in 1948 and has been present, in various guises, since that time. In 2009, the national Age Concern body joined forces with Help the Aged to form the new national charity - Age UK - in 2010, but we remain autonomous and independent. Services currently provided include Information and Advice, Toe Nail Cutting, Befriending, Living Better, Partners in Care and Ageing Well. Age UK Somerset run a programme of physical activity sessions and co-ordinate and promote ALL opportunities for Staying Strong and Staying Steady in North Somerset, which is part of a North Somerset wide initiative to increase healthy and active living in North Somerset. The classes are aimed at reducing falls in Older People and we are part of a Countywide Falls Network promoting services that can help prevent Falls which is a leading factor for ill health and disability for older people. By encouraging older people to have a healthy lifestyle, the Staying Steady activities aims to improve the quality of their extra years, ensuring that 'adding years to life, also means adding life to years'!
