Recipient Org: Description Off the Record (OTR) provide a variety of services for young people (11-25 years old) looking to improve their mental health. We have been operating in Bristol and South Gloucestershire since 1965 and help over 2,000 young people each year. What is key to all our services is that they are free at every point of access. The type of projects we run vary from 1-1 counselling, specialist youth work (for example with LGBT+ community) and training. Our objective is to ensure young people have a free, easily accessible service running all year round, one they can drop into to receive some support and help. Types of problems we face include: depression, anxiety, eating disorders, gang violence, suicidal thoughts, amongst others. We offer a non-judgmental attitude that provides a number of practical ways for young people to improve their confidence, self-esteem and general mental wellbeing. We also help young people to campaign around decreasing the negative stigma that still persists around mental health. We hope for a day when when mental health problems are as accepted as physical health problems and young people do not fear disclosing issues for fear of discrimination.
