Recipient Org: Description | The aim of Trinity Care Service (TCS) is to alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people. TCS was originally developed in 2013, and is expected to be sustainable in its current format for the future. The lunch club service operates every Thursday and is staffed by a co-ordinator, cook, kitchen assistant and driver, supported by a committed group of volunteers. TCS currently has an attendance of between 16 and 22 clients. TCS provide a safe environment, a hot, freshly prepared 3 course lunch, gentle exercise, quiz and raffle as well as activities such as pottery, music and trips. As an extension to this established service we opened a monthly memory café (including an activity or talk) in March 2017. Memory Cafes are, first and foremost, a setting in which persons with memory loss can share fun and laughter with their care partners and friends in a setting free from awkwardness and stigma. But they are also a setting where accurate information about resources is available and relationships with persons in similar circumstances are formed. And they are a vehicle for bringing dementia “out of the closet” and into the heart of community. |
