| Recipient Org: Description | We reduce homelessness among new single refugees in Bristol (currently at least 30 newly granted single refugees are homeless) by providing affordable (LHA rate) shared accommodation as a first step to their new life in the UK; Many asylum seekers who are granted refugee status in Bristol find it almost impossible to find affordable housing unless they are a family with children. We have also developed partnerships with other support agencies to signpost new refugees to appropriate employability, education, debt advice and benefits advice services to help them integrate into UK life as quickly as possible. We are in a position to acquire substantial new housing capacity (3-70 new houses over 3 years) with our proposed partnership with Joseph Rowntree Foundation (50 houses) and with local and national philanthropists (20 houses). We aim to be self sufficient in funding within 5 years by developing more housing on different 'deals' (peppercorn, management fee basis, house purchase by crowdfunding deposits or social investment with capital return on investment) which could if balanced right bring in the income we need to provide our support services to refugee tenants and provide a solid financial basis for the organisation into the future. |
