Recipient Org: Description | Firebird Theatre is a company of experienced disabled actors/performers. We have a consistent track record and history of making plays and performances since 1988. We are a family of actors and theatre-makers with a job to do, to use our style of theatre – a combination of music, devised work, text and a large ensemble – to make plays and tell stories to others, our audience, that they might not have seen before. Connecting with other people, from whatever background, is our motivation. In essence: • We make and perform theatre with a group of disabled performers - well publicised as an underrepresented group within the industry; • We plan and deliver educational and participatory workshops to a range of different groups and organisations, particularly schools and colleges; • We support other disabled people to make theatre and develop their creative voice; • We develop the individual and group skills of the company (actors, workers, trustees) and involve leading external practitioners so that we can grow and move forward as a company and continually refresh our practice. • We make a case for, and promote disabled access to theatre and the arts wherever possible |
