| Recipient Org: Description | To support families, professionals and all those involved in the care and education of children and young people who have Down Syndrome. We have a dedicated family support team who offer one-to-one family support for all parents, carers and siblings. We provide information and advise on matters relating to Down Syndrome including meeting health, educational and social care needs. We work directly with children and young people who have Down Syndrome to offer valuable and stimulating learning opportunities and support them to be a valued member of their community through inclusion. We offer a full training program to all parents and professionals to assist in them meeting the needs of the children. In North Somerset we offer a family clinic session once a month for those seeking information, advise and support. In addition in North Somerset we operate a once fortnightly youth club for young people with Down Syndrome. We also have a team of dedicated volunteer befrienders who can also be carefully matched with a family to offer ongoing support. Our volunteers all have a child with Down Syndrome so are well placed to understand the ongoing needs and complexities. |
