Recipient Org: Description Or aims are to support women (and their families) who are suffering from perinatal mental illness, anxiety, depression or isolation during and after pregnancy. We support mothers of children from before birth to aged three suffering throughout Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. We are a peer support group and our core services include: Mother / Child Support groups, home visits, telephone helpline, one to one support and counselling. We also offer advice, information and support telephone line. Currently we support over 70 women with perinatal mental illness and since we began we have supported over 3000 affected by this illness. Women may suffer from many forms and many symptoms of perinatal illness including depression, anxiety, postpartum psychosis, isolation, maternal OCD, birth trauma and adjustment disorders. Perinatal mental illness can affect up to 20% of mothers. This can have an adverse impact on the Mother and the emotional, cognitive and even physical development of the child. We also work to reduce the stigma relating to maternal mental health and to raise awareness of this illness and the support that is available to families to enable women to speak freely about their illness and seek the support they need.
