Recipient Org: Description | Ablaze was founded in 2005 by the group that supported the Bristol Education Action Zone, a government funded initiative. The charity has brokered partnerships between schools and businesses in the wider Bristol area in support of students aged from 7-18. Our mission is to tackle inequality of opportunity for young people in the region. Our Primary interventions range from one-off role model visits designed to inspire pupils to consider a range of different job possibilities, to longer term, individual and small group support with reading and maths. All our support is carefully developed to broaden pupils’ interpersonal and soft skills, as well as their academic development. Our Secondary interventions focus on conquering low self-esteem, increasing confidence and inspiring young people to achieve both academically and in the workplace. Ablaze harnesses the knowledge and expertise of Bristol’s businesses to deliver a wide range of inter-connected inspirational and confidence-raising programmes that support schools to develop social and employability skills in the city’s young people. Ablaze is a service provider for various organisations including UWE and Airbus Foundation and is notable for the strength and breadth of its business connections. Ablaze won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2015. |
