Recipient Org: Description | Art Refuge supports the mental health and wellbeing of displaced people through art and art therapy in the UK and internationally, and currently offers crisis support and consultation to frontline staff in relation to Covid 19. Established as a charity in 2006, Art Refuge offers specialist art and art therapy spaces to people who have been displaced due to war, persecution and poverty, both while in transit and once in the UK, including those who have been internally displaced. Always working in close partnership with local and international government and non-governmental organisations, our work largely takes place through groups and we currently operate in London, Bristol, Calais and Paris. We also engage the public in research, exhibitions and other activities. In Bristol we have worked over a number of years with young refugees seeking asylum in the UK and have a growing reputation as an organisation that offers specialist art therapy groups for this hard to reach population, effective partnership working, and skills-sharing to others working to support these young people, including foster carers. We are now at the point of expanding and replicating our expertise to other areas of the UK. |
