Recipient Org: Description Anorexia & Bulimia Care (ABC) has over 30 years’ experience offering emotional support and practical guidance for recovery to those struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and related co-morbidities such as self-harming, compulsive over-exercise and laxative abuse. ABC exists to provide immediate safeguarding of lives and to prevent an eating disorder from developing and claiming life. ABC offers practical guidance and support to those with eating disorders and their family members through its helplines, online services and courses, helping them to achieve recovery. A long standing, unique adult Befriending Service (established in 1990) offers weekly support for 6 months minimum for someone struggling to recover by carefully matching them to a trained volunteer with experience of stable recovery. Currently 30 volunteer Befrienders can support 60 service users with progress measured by Mental Health Recovery Star. ABC educates, trains and advises those caring for those with eating disorders, writing online courses for Royal College of General Practitioners and The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. ABC carries out preventative education through talks and workshops for schools, colleges and universities. We promote research into eating disorders and research into treatment and publish the results.
