Recipient Org: Description Age UK South Gloucestershire provides a range of services to older people in South Gloucestershire. These include: - Information and advice. Telephone and face-to-face support on a wide range of issues affecting older people, from basic enquiries through to detailed information about accessing and paying for care. This helps older people and their families/carers to access the information and support they need for their particular circumstances. - Specialist benefits advice. As part of the South Gloucestershire Advice Service (a partnership of five advice providers) we offer specialist benefits advice via home visits to those of retirement age. As well as the main benefits such as Attendance Allowance and Pension Credit, we provide information on the 'Warmer Homes' initiative to ensure energy efficient homes and efficient energy consumption. Outcomes achieved include additional welfare benefits of over £1m each year. - Befriending. Regular weekly visits to isolated, mostly housebound people by volunteers to develop meaningful relationships, which can be the highlight of people's weeks. - Reconnect. Peer-to-peer befriending, where we link up older people who are lonely/isolated, but able to be out and about. We support matches with others who have similar interests and facilitate new friendships. - Activity Day Centres. Based in various community locations, we offer a morning activity, two course lunch and an afternoon activity. These are mixed groups where people with or without a dementia diagnosis can be supported. These combat loneliness and promote an active mind and body. - Community Services. One to one support in the home, delivering welfare checks, various one-to-one activities, sitting service, basic IT skills and similar activities. - Improving Homes and Wellbeing. Support for owner-occupiers who are facing difficulties maintaining the house and garden to prevent situations from escalating to enforcement. - Foot care. Ensuring healthy feet to maintain mobility and balance.
