| Recipient Org: Description | The Community Farm is a not-for-profit Community Supported Agriculture project founded in 2011 by volunteers. We are situated next to Chew Valley Lake, 11 miles from Bristol and Bath. Our purpose is nature-friendly organic farming for a local market, where people of all ages and from all walks of life can get on the land for learning, work, and play; pioneering an ethical, environmental and socially motivated business. We do 3 main things 1) market-garden scale organic vegetable growing on 10 acres; 2) selling our produce and that of other local growers through a box scheme with 400 customers per week, and through a wholesale operation; 3) running 'Get on Our Land' (GOL), our social and therapeutic communities programme. GOL provides people with skills in sustainable, low impact and organic horticultural practices, as well as the opportunity to connect with and learn about nature. It brings people together, combining a social, therapeutic and learning environment for a wide range of people. GOL includes extensive educational work with children and a social and therapeutic horticulture project for adults with mental health . We also have an inclusive volunteering scheme, alongside offering learning experiences in sustainable farming, wildlife and other nature-based skills. |
