Recipient Org: Description | VOICES was founded as an independent charity in 2014 by a group of local women survivors of domestic abuse to provide a recovery-focused specialist service for other victims and survivors in Bath & North East Somerset (BANES), and a platform for the voices of survivors to inform training, consultation and service design, improving responses to domestic abuse across the wider community. VOICES core activities centre on a suite of recovery programmes for groups: • Freedom Programme (a national programme enabling victims to identify abusive behaviour). • Recovery Toolkit (a national psychoeducational programme for recovery from abusive patterns). • MATES social group (a drop-in social group, currently outdoors, increasing social integration and confidence building initiatives in a safe and restorative atmosphere). We also provide individual help to respond to specific needs: • Individual support work (e.g., housing, benefits, legal advocacy work, immigration issues and onward referral). • Specialist domestic and sexual abuse counselling • Legal advice clinic (for VOICES clients, run in partnership with the University of the West of England Law Department) VOICES also support survivors to have their voices heard and provide lived experience consultation and training to services, researchers and professionals, including Local Authorities, SafeLives and Womens Aid |
