Recipient Org: Description | The Misfits Theatre Company is much more than a drama group. We are a user-led organisation working creatively to meet the needs of people with learning difficulties (PWLD). Each member benefits from being part of a unique organization and active involvement and say in its direction. Our charitable aims are: 1) To advance education of people with learning disabilities (PWLD) ranging from those with moderate learning disabilities to those with profound and complex needs 2) To promote social inclusion for PWLD, preventing socially exclusion and promoting integration and connections with society 3) To empower PWLD to be experts and influencers in their own conditions and provide them with a platform for change. We fulfil these by offering PWLD the opportunities to develop skills through creative programmes that improve well-being, support independence and champion fulfilled and healthy lives. Through our affordable workshops and training, the weekly activities that Misfits run provide a holistic approach to help PWLD voice their experiences, and create connections with each other and their community. In lockdown, we have remained in weekly contact with those who attend our workshops and offer free online creative - helping our members keep active, connected and inspired as a priority. |
