Recipient Org: Description Age UK B&NES has been supporting older people throughout B&NES for 80 years, Our aim is to grow an age-friendly community where everyone is enabled to age well. At the height of the pandemic, we were receiving more calls from people needing our supportwho were feeling more isolated and anxious than ever. And we don’t know the future of living with Covid, so we remain flexible to respond to people’s changing needs. Our services are divided into three areas: Information and Advice, Community Connections (Befriending, Dementia groups, digital inclusion, day clubs, transport) and Home services (hospital discharge, preventing admission into hospital and practical support in the home). Outcomes include: Over the last year, we have helped older people claim nearly £700,000 in unclaimed benefits. Enabling them to afford the rising cost of living. Befriending continued despite covid, with 94 lonely older people receiving Befriending phone calls and 53 people safely meeting in person. Befriending prevents loneliness and isolation and enables their welfare to be regularly monitored and referred to other services where necessary. Day clubs have reopened enabling people to enjoy friendship, entertainment and a hot meal. We aim to be the first port of call for older people in B&NES and many local organisations make referrals to us.
