Recipient Org: Description | The Rock Centre is a community run centre, a one of a kind on a large deprived council estate with an increasing population and little resources available to the residents. At the Rock we aim to provide a community facility for activities identified by the local people, with specific reference to the elderly and the disabled of all ages. By providing a centre that meets the needs of the community as a whole, address issues covering isolation, loneliness, financial advice, health issues, depression, boredom and a sense of belonging. Our aim is to address community health needs through local, accessible and complimentary services so that we can offer opportunities for improving health and wellbeing and support those suffering from long term health conditions, therefore creating a centre for the community giving people a sense of purpose and belonging in an area that is well known for offering few opportunities and amenities. Though our target audience was previously for the over older and disabled people, we have found that our centre over the last two years has been accessed by residents of all ages and abilities. Our centre is currently hosting a weekly Monday NHS walk in covid vaccination clinic, along with a weekly clinic we also host a monthly Saturday clinic so that we have more options available for residents. Our clinics have proved to be very successful and are scheduled to continue until at least March 2023. Since the start of the pandemic we have been involved with the Bristol City Council Task Ward Meetings; these meetings have allowed us to address ward wide issues and help were we can. We have strong links with the Co-op group, who provide us daily with free food donations. These donations are then distributed to residents within the community. |
