Recipient Org: Description Our vison is to create opportunities that offer people a route out of poverty. Big Issue Foundation was founded in 1995 and registered as a charity to work alongside the magazine distribution network. Our mission is to engage with society’s most excluded and marginalised people by recognising their strengths, providing them with an opportunity to sell Big Issue whilst offering them personalised support and navigation to specialist services (Local Authorities, Housing Associations, NHS Services, Addiction Treatment Centres) so they can rebuild their lives and determine their own pathways to a better future. Nationally, we support over 1,000 Big Issue vendors each year to source stable accommodation, access education and training, open bank accounts, re-connect with family, achieve financial independence through earning their own income from magazine sales and progress into further employment when they are ready to do so. From our small, local offices in Bristol (York Court) and Bath (Green Park) approximately 90 individuals are supported to sell the magazine each month. In an average trading year over 300 individuals will approach and sell the Big Issue Magazine to help them move away from poverty. Last year we provided additional wrap around support to 94 individuals so they could address the barriers contributing to their social and financial exclusion. Due to the cost of living crisis we have supported over 103 people since April 2022 alone. A 50% increase on last year, at least. Nationwide, 50% of vendors report as from a Roma background. Elena explains "The Big Issue was there for me, and they looked at every aspect of my life to make it better. I will never forget the support that I’ve received from The Big Issue Foundation. It is so good to know that when I need help, they will be there for me."
