Recipient Org: Description We are a member-led organisation that provides empowering creative, social & artistic activities for people with learning difficulties (PWLD). We run workshops with experienced & recognised artists/facilitators for 60 PWLD. Where verbal communication is difficult, creativity through dance, poetry or drama provides a new language to translate feelings and thoughts into something positive and inspiring. Our members devise & rehearse their own original work, and the content & performances that emerge are heartfelt, funny & incredibly poignant. Recognised since 2005 for providing unique and creative training solutions for Bristol’s two universities, NHS and City Council, our performances describe the experiences and challenges faced by PWLD and how they want to be treated by the services they use and the professionals they meet. Tackling difficult issues like domestic abuse, sexual health, relationships and pregnancy we educate & entertain. Our recent work includes: "Learning Disabilities Awareness" training delivered to 30 Doctors, 60 Learning Disability student Nurses and 20 Adult Nursing Students at UWE; and a Safe Guarding conference in Somerset for 150 professionals. We have made 2 films: "Five Myths of Employment" in partnership with Bristol City Council's 'We work for everyone', to help PWLD find work; and "Helping women to choose how they feed their babies" in partnership with UWE's School of Health and Social Wellbeing, about PWLD and parenthood. In April we will be part of the Bristol Lyra Poetry Festival and in May we will deliver 4 performances to launch a new care and treatment review policy for NHS England to approx. 500 health professionals.
