Recipient Org: Description | Age UK South Gloucestershire provides a range of information and services to older people. Our age demographic is 'the over 50s', but the majority of our proactive work targets people of retirement age (67 and over). Our current range of services includes: - Information and Advice ('I&A'): Our confidential telephone helpline and face-to-face services in the office can provide information on a wide range of issues affecting those in later life. This can range from a leaflet about a local organisation to detailed information on how to access and pay for care. - Specialist Benefits Advice: We work in partnership with advice providers across South Gloucestershire to support people in applying for welfare benefits. Our contribution to this is the delivery of home visits to people unable to access the regular community sessions. We only advise on benefits for those 67 and over and have secured over £1.75m extra benefits over the past year. - Will writing: A local solicitor provides regular pro-bono will writing appointments for those who can't afford to write their own wills. - Activity Day Centres: These are now reopening following lockdown. We have three locations currently and plan to grow this over the next two years. People attending are usually socially isolated and/or attending to give carer respite. Sessions include am/pm activities and a two-course lunch. - Community Services: A home-visiting service providing non-regulated practical support, activities and company to those living alone. - Befriending: Volunteers make regular weekly visits to housebound, isolated older people to address their loneliness. - Reconnect: A development of the befriending concept facilitating peer-to-peer befriending. - Technology Support: Enabling people to develop digital skills to access online services safely. |
