Recipient Org: Description | Ablaze, a charity in the West of England, provides a vital bridge between businesses and young people, facilitating meaningful connections and opportunities. We champion learning and professional development, targeting young people who are under-served, under-estimated, disengaged and lack social collateral. All our programmes utilize the skills and commitment of volunteers from our partner businesses to provide essential support, insight and guidance for the young people we serve. Our programmes impacted over 1000 pupils during 2018-19 in this time we have worked to have an impact to ensure that we-; -raise young people’s confidence and aspiration -support attainment and skill levels -increase engagement in learning -empower young people with knowledge to make informed choices about their future Our volunteer business mentors encourage pupils to build their confidence and self esteem and, through the early exploration of resilience, understanding how to overcome challenges and not be afraid of failure. The group activities encourage pupils to improve communication skills and teamwork and start to explore their own individual skills and early aspirations while seeing the benefits of school. Programmes include Reading Partners for Primary Schools, with regular visits to offer one to one or small group support to listen to readers and offer conversations to children who are developing language skills. Career Mentoring in secondary schools offers group mentoring model with targeted student groups. Students work with a team of trained business mentors. We target students entitled to free school meals, pupil premium or identified as needing additional support. Ablaze is working to mitigate the crisis in skills and confidence currently facing our young people. We broker and manages partnerships between schools and businesses . We provide training, DBS Checks, resources and support volunteers to ensure they and the young people they work with have the best possible experience benefiting both parties. |
