Recipient Org: Description | The Global Goals Centre is a Bristol-based educational charity inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations that aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and address the climate emergency by 2030. Our activities consist of the creation of groundbreaking projects that inspire action towards Global Goals - through education, art, inclusion, engagement and the provision of accessible, interactive resources. All of our projects are designed to support and equip people – particularly young people from disadvantaged backgrounds – with the passion, knowledge and skills required to address the most important challenges of our time and speed up the path to sustainability. To achieve this, we collaborate with the local community, artists, educators, grass-roots organisations, universities, and many other like-minded partners. Recent example: our Threads Project aimed to raise awareness and educate young people regarding the adverse effects of the fashion industry on our planet. In 2021 we worked with creatives, educators, and subject matter experts to create a fast fashion experience for 11-14 year olds - Threads the online game, an immersive journey that explores the social and environmental impacts of our clothing. The game enabled young people to explore how to bring positive change in the way we make, consume and launder clothes and has been played over 2000 times. The game is supported by educational resources that can be downloaded for free from the Global Goals Centre website; these have had over 150 downloads. We ran 10 schools workshops, targeting schools in lower income areas of the city; as well as impacting attitude change to their clothing, we also taught young people how to carry out simple mending such as sewing on a button, empowering them to repair their own clothes. |
