| Recipient Org: Description | St Peter’s Hospice is the only adult hospice in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, supporting a population of nearly 1 million. Since the opening of the Hospice, we have cared for over 30,000 people, in their own homes and at the Hospice. For people nearing the end of their lives, we aim to provide the very best end of life care within an environment of support, comfort, compassion and respect. Every year, we care for thousands of patients and their families who are facing their most challenging moments. Living with a life limiting illness changes everything and our teams have been on hand for over 40 years to help patients and their families through these difficult times. We provide a range of services, both at our Inpatient Unit, where our expert doctors and nurses help to bring pain under control for patients nearing the end of their lives, and in patients’ own homes, where our teams enable patients to spend their last days and weeks in familiar surroundings. The pandemic has had a big impact on grieving processes and bereavement. A study by Marie Curie has shown that those bereaved during the pandemic are at risk of complicated grief, which can leave a long legacy of physical, psychological and economic problems, with consequences for individuals and society. Our Emotional and Psychological Support (EPS) team are dedicated to the wellbeing of our patients, family and friends of patients, and the bereaved. We have a dedicated Children’s Services team, supporting children and teenagers and helping them through their loved one’s illness and long into bereavement. Being given a life-limiting diagnosis can be very distressing, and at St Peter’s Hospice we focus on the person as a whole; helping them physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually and supporting those close to them. |
