| Recipient Org: Description | We support some of the UK’s most vulnerable and marginalised people, whose complex needs put them at significant risk of social exclusion. We focus on 3 groups: veterans and service personnel on recovery duty, young people facing multiple disadvantage and people with criminal convictions. Using asset-based coaching and supporting bespoke volunteering placements, our experienced outreach workers support clients to build skills, aspirations, resilience, self-esteem and social capital. In this way we support our clients to develop the tools they need to fulfil their potential. Our clients are some of the UK’s most vulnerable, facing multiple disadvantage, including: mental or physical health issues, learning difficulties, not being in education, employment or training (NEET), having a criminal record, being a veteran, being care-experienced, being insecurely housed, debt, substance misuse, being LGBTQ+ or having experienced abuse. Step Together Volunteering has been supporting disadvantaged people to volunteer for over 25 years. Initially focusing on young people facing multiple disadvantage, over 10 years ago we also began working with people with criminal convictions, and veterans and service personnel on recovery duty. Our unique model of combining flexible, personalised coaching support with bespoke community volunteering has made a significant difference to the lives of clients we have supported. We provide support to around 300 people each year, and help them to improve their confidence levels, social interaction and connections to the community. In the past 12 months, results show: - 80% reported improved confidence and aspirations. - 76% reported improved emotional wellbeing. - 68% reported gaining skills. - 64% reported improved connections and friendships - 76% of clients also reported having healthier lifestyles. For people with criminal convictions, the re-offending rate for those we support is just 7%, significantly lower than the national average of 24%. |
