Recipient Org: Charity Number 1175054
Recipient Org: Description CfD is the only Bristol-based third-sector organisation that represents all deaf adults in the city. We support all adults who have a hearing loss, whatever the severity/age of onset. We campaign to make key services accessible to deaf people and encourage the development of deaf-led activities. (Abbreviations: HoH=hard of hearing) CfD: Provides an Equipment Service, funded by Bristol City Council, to ensure deaf people have the assistive technology that enables them to be independent. Holds regular Coffee Mornings, virtual and face-to-face. These are attended by 18-25 deaf people, mainly BSL-users. Runs Coffee Mornings for hard of hearing people. Our Coffee Mornings reduce the social isolation that many deaf people experience. Has run a number of short-term projects, e.g. Welcoming Spaces project, funded by Bristol City Council. CfD worked with partners across Bristol to make their spaces and activities accessible for Deaf and HoH people. Lottery-funded project (Oct 2020-March 2021) to support deaf people in employment to manage the challenges imposed by Covid regulations. We developed peer-support so that deaf people themselves would identify the challenges in employment and support each other to find solutions. “Living with Hearing Loss in the Time of Covid”: we ran on-line workshops for HoH people to encourage them to use technology such as Zoom to join in workshops to enable them to understand their hearing loss and the effects deafness has on communication and relationships. Provides local deaf-led groups with support and funds to enable them to offer social opportunities for deaf people e.g. Deaf Sewing Group, Little Hands (deaf parents) and 50+ Deaf Group. Offers Deaf Equality Training that gives participants the tools to create activities and services that are inclusive of deaf people. Organisations such as Age UK, St Peter’s Hospice, and Avon and Somerset Police have attended.
