Recipient Org: Description Our aim is for Bristol to be an Age Friendly city so that people are able to love later life. We provide practical support and social connection for people over 55 years, recognising that people’s needs change throughout their lives and as they age. Our services are designed to respond to particular needs that may arise following major life events such as retirement, bereavement, ill health or hospitalisation, and to prevent or lessen the impact of those events by reducing the potential for isolation, loneliness, anxiety, poverty, poor living conditions, carer breakdown or unnecessary escalation of ill health. We offer practical support through providing information and advice about a wide range of things including benefits, housing and social care, which can be particularly helpful in times of crisis in people’s lives. Our LinkAge service offers a range of opportunities and services to support people to connect with others and within their local communities. To ensure the best and right type of support, we also signpost and refer people to other organisations e.g. handyperson service, aids & adaptations at home and specialist support e.g. for carers, people with dementia and people who have had a stroke or for local support from an organisation in their community. As far as possible, we want to enable people to be independent, supporting themselves and others, so we actively encourage volunteering and peer support.
