Recipient Org: Description | Arkbound Foundation is a grassroots charity based in Bristol and Glasgow that provides publishing and writing development opportunities to people from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds. Our aims are to widen accessibility and improve diversity within the publishing industry, as well as to enrich local community with accessible and developmental projects. We support people from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds to: 1) access publishing opportunities; 2) gain confidence and find their voice; 3) enhance creative writing skills; 4) gain valuable industry insight via 1:1 mentoring with experienced professionals. All our projects are targeted at people experiencing exceptional levels of disadvantage and social exclusion. We run multiple projects aimed at different target groups, such as our 1-1 mentoring programmes (Bridging Literary Divides and Writing Within Walls), and our creative writing programme (Wild Goose workshops) which caters to Bristol residents who are experiencing or have experienced homelessness. Alongside these projects, we also publish books with a focus on societal and environmental themes from disadvantaged authors as well as those with lived experiences of the social issues that their books encompass e.g. visible/ invisible disabilities, mental health, homelessness, poverty, racism etc. |
