Recipient Org: Description The Global Goals Centre (GGC) is a Bristol-based educational charity inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations that aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and address the climate emergency by 2030. We create groundbreaking projects that inspire action towards Global Goals - through education, art, inclusion, engagement and the provision of accessible, interactive resources. All of our projects are designed to support and equip people – particularly young people from disadvantaged backgrounds – with the passion, knowledge and skills required to address the most important challenges of our time and speed up the path to sustainability. To achieve this, we collaborate with the local community, artists, educators, grass-roots organisations, universities, and many other like-minded partners. Our latest project is Sparks Bristol, a vibrant reimagined sustainable department store in the old M&S building in Broadmead. It was a result of a Bristol Assembly meeting where 94% of people voted for a one-stop shop for sustainability and advice on how to reduce waste. Designed with our charity partner Artspace Lifespace, we collaborate with over 30 different organisations and over 100 local independent traders to bring sustainability, social justice and equality to life. 2,200 school-age children have attended education workshops and craft activities since opening in May 2023. We also provide sustainability advice and training for businesses and university students, and offer cheap spaces for community groups, artists and performers to use. We currently welcome 8,000 visitors per week. We've given over 1,315 people energy and fuel poverty advice, and created 20 volunteering jobs and upskilling opportunities, providing over 1,000 hours. Sparks is an important Broadmead and city centre destination and seven local authorities around the UK are watching with interest to see if this can be a blueprint for other failing high streets.
